Our new kindergarten in Dakar, Senegal opened its doors in October 2015. The school will provide a solid beginning to a new life for 100 children each semester. They will not only learn to read and write, but also receive lessons in healthcare and nutrition.
We began the project in 2013, raising the funds needed for our new school “St. Elizabeth’s”. In an effort to promote peace between Muslim and Christian faiths, the Sisters have renamed our kindergarten “Mame Elizabeth”, translated to Mama Elizabeth, and as always, welcoming children of any religion.
The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor are remarkable women whose mission is to bring the people in Senegal out of poverty, and they are succeeding on so many levels. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement! The Sisters send their thanks to our generous benefactors. Extra special thanks to BD and the Porter Family for making this dream a reality. We said “If we build it, they will come…”
