Brazil

In 1960, five members of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor arrived in Brazil at the request of Pope John XXIII and began their mission in Pires di Rio.  Since then, the Sisters have expanded their ministries throughout Brazil and currently have more than 10 comprehensive programs working to provide direct service and immediate relief to those in need.

Italy

The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor have been serving in Italy for over 60 years (since 1947).  For over half a century, they have upheld and furthered the mission of caring for the poor and needy — those who have been neglected and ignored by greater society.  Today, the Sisters have over 10 different programs in a multitude of areas and locations.

Senegal

The Sisters established their first community in Senegal in 1978, at the invitation of Bishop Adrien Theodor Saar.  The Sisters quickly opened clinics and began serving the many medical needs of the community.  Today, the Sisters have established educational programs such as a kindergarten and elementary school, as well as health clinics.

United States

A small group of Sisters came to the United States from Germany in 1858 to minister to the poor and sick.  Today, the United States is the headquarters for the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor and the FSP Foundation.  Sisters in the United States work in a variety of different ministries.
