Keur Gertrude Welcome Center (Dakar)

Keur Gertrude (Keur, in the local Wolof language, means “home”, or “house”) is a house rented by the Sisters on the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal’s capital. The use of this house allows the Sisters to operate a welcome center to help the people living in the surrounding areas. The center is open on Tuesdays and Fridays, both mornings and afternoons, and deals with a variety of issues including (but not limited to) family issues and abandonment; unemployment; and healthcare.

During this past year, the Sisters responded to one of the major needs for adolescents and students in the neighborhood - the need for a place to study. Students using the study room did very well in their university exams and in their high school studies, expressing appreciation and joy at the opportunity the study room provided.

Needs: Funding to support additional developmental and educational activities for children, adolescents and youth.
